Goliad Center for Texas History
The Goliad Center for Texas History located in the Texas History Room of the Goliad County Library seeks to collect, preserve, and provide access to significant materials that document the history of Goliad County and the Coastal Bend Region.
Presently, collections in the Center consist of materials regarding the Judge J. A. White Family, the Markethouse Museum, and the record collections of local organizations, all of which are composed of various formats, including journals, newspapers, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, photographs, microfilm, audio recordings, scrapbooks, genealogies, a vertical file, and the Texana book collection, which consists of over eight hundred titles. Recently, the Center received the 2010 Community Oral History Grant from the Baylor Institute for Oral History, which will enable us to kick off an oral history program that will supplement the historical records and holdings in the Goliad Center for Texas History.
The Center receives researchers primarily interested in Goliad’s role in Texas history and genealogy, and we encourage anyone and everyone interested in Goliad and its community to stop by and view our holdings. Please keep in mind that the Goliad Center for Texas History is an archives, and as such, the materials (including the books) are non-circulating and cannot leave the building. If you are interested in visiting us, we are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please direct any reference requests to the Goliad County Archivist, Melissa Gonzales, at: 361.645.2291 or via email at: goliad.archives@gmail.com.
