J.A. White Family Goliad Center for Texas History

The J.A. White Family Goliad Center for Texas History located in the Goliad County Library seeks to collect, preserve, and provide access to significant materials that document the history of Goliad County and the Coastal Bend Region.

Presently, collections in the Center consist of materials regarding the Judge J.A. White Family, the Markethouse Museum, Patsy Light, Tim VonDohlen, as well as the record collections of local organizations, including the First United Methodist Church of Goliad. Collections are composed of various formats, including journals, newspapers, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, photographs, yearbooks, newspapers on microfilm and DVDs, audio recordings, scrapbooks, genealogies, a vertical file, and the Texana book collection, which consists of over 800 titles. We also have bound oral history interviews from members of our community, which supplement the historical records and holdings in the Goliad Center for Texas History.

The Center receives researchers primarily interested in Goliad’s role in Texas History and genealogy, and we encourage anyone and everyone to stop by and visit our new facility and view our holdings. Please keep in mind that the Goliad Center for Texas History is an archives, and as such, the majority of the materials are non-circulating and cannot leave the building. If you are interested in visiting, Curator Lisa Rodriguez is available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Walk-ins are welcome, appointments preferred, contact Lisa at 361-645-2291 ext. 18204 or email, lrodriguez@goliadcountytx.gov
